Ibrahim Toume

Hey! I’m Ibrahim, I’m the founder of the Rocky Jazz String Orchestra and a third year science student at the University of Alberta.

I was born in Tartus Syria and moved to Canada in 2016. When I’m not studying, I’m writing music, or working on my medical application. You can find me volunteering at various hospitals around the city or maybe at CCIS crying over my grades, if you see me, please come say hi!

Lucas rosen

Hi. I’m Lucas Rosen, RJSO’s director. I am excited to be with the ensemble for our second year of operations.

I recently completed my fourth year of a bachelor of music in saxophone performance and when I’m not with RJSO I spend my time playing with one of my many other bands, or working on public art events. It’s my pleasure to be back directing the band this year, I look forward to seeing you all at our concerts this year!

Sup! I’m Emma, the secretary of RJSO. I was the one who designed the website and previously played the violin. My main instrument is the bass, I’m of Filipino descent, I’m studying Psychology and Film at UofA, as well as Human Ecology and Relationships. I currently work at a pokemon cafe and love playing video games and d&d!

Emma Corpus

Opa, e aí? I’m Davi, and I work with the finances and the sound equipment of RJSO.

I was born and raised in Brazil, and moved to Edmonton during High School. I am a Chemical Technology student with a passion for fine tuning the powerful sound of RJSO through capture and mix!

wassUP, I'm Calvin! I'm a multi instrumentalist in my second year of music at MacEwan university. I've lived in Alberta my whole life just outside of Edmonton till recently. I've been an active part of the marching arts in Edmonton for a couple years now and when I'm not doing that I'm probably practicing, playing or composing somewhere around the city!

Calvin Berridge
Noah Peckson

Noah was born in the small little town of Edmonton, Alberta; with parents hailing from the Pampanga region of the Philippines. Currently working as both the Officer and Librarian of RJSO

Noah Plays a myriad of instruments: such as Cello, Vocals, Saxophone, guitar, piano, and bass. Having a passion for music composition and performance, he strives to become a well known arranger/composer in the music scene here in the Edmonton Community; whilst working part time as a groundskeeper at Edmonton Catholic Cemeteries.

Hello, I’m Kei! I’m this year’s Social Media & Design Lead for RJSO. I’m a bassist, pianist, & vocalist currently pursuing a combined Bachelor of Music / Bachelor of Education (Secondary), with a minor in Social Studies. My calendar is primarily filled with teaching, rehearsals or performances!

My musical journey was heavily influenced by my parents as I am an avid lover of proto-goth, new wave, & jazz — as well as the Evangelion franchise! Outside of music, you can find me writing essays or experimenting with arrangements & graphic design.

kei alcoceba

Hi! I’m Nathan Heinbuch, and I’m an arrangement composer for RJSO, as well as a multi-instrumentalist born and based in Edmonton, Alberta! Performance-wise, I'm primarily perceived as a clarinetist, trombonist, and percussionist around town; where I’ve been involved in various kinds of ensembles from marching bands to free improv groups.

Currently, I’m focusing on taking my Bachelor of Music in composition at the UofA- which has helped me get closer to music that impacted my life since I was little, and turn all the inspiration and emotions into something of my own :)

Nathan Heinbuch

Hello! My name is George, and I recently joined the RJSO executive team. I was born in Winnipeg but have lived in Edmonton for 7 years. It’s here that I discovered my passion for playing the trumpet.

I’m currently a first-year Physiology student at the University of Alberta, and I hope to keep my love for music as I pursue a life in the medical field.

About us

The Rocky Jazz String Orchestra is a combination of a regular string orchestra and The Stan Kenton's Innovations Orchestra. Our goal is to add a new way to play contemporary by using aspects of classical music. We take a jazz big band, adding a strings section similar to a regular orchestra while adding a couple percussion and classical brass.

We believe this will help us find the balance between the two genres.
