If you’re applying for multiple instruments you need to audition on each.

Positions

Full Time Player

  • your attendance at every rehearsal is required, you would be generally playing in every chart.

Part Time Player:

  • would be someone not needed for every rehearsal, this position is exclusive to vocalist, any percussionist except for principal percussionist, and any exceptions added to the top instrumentation.

Wind Evaluation

Technical:

1. Full range chromatic scale

2. Play two major scales of your choice (two octaves)

  • It is highly encouraged that Winds with experience in playing their doubles (both flute and/or clarinet) must be prepared to play in Bb, Eb, F, and Ab Major, From Your respective instrument. As this will influence decision.

3. Choose a short excerpt from a prepared piece from any musical style to preform; OR, perform a jazz solo transcription of your choice

4. Sight-reading section

Improvisation:

1. Solo through a provided Bb blues chord chart OR Choose any 12-bar lead sheet

Technical:

1. Play four major scales of your choice, two octaves.

· Pianists need four octaves – double unison.

2. Choose a short excerpt from a prepared piece from any musical style to preform; OR, perform a jazz solo transcription of your choice

Improvisation:

1. Comp for any chart of your choosing on memory; OR, improvise over A12-bar blues AT medium swing WITH trade 4’s

(4 measures of solo then 4 measures of “comping” with themselves)

dRUM eVALUATION

Technical:

1. Perform along to A track of music chosen by you in any musical style; it may be cut short in terms of time.

2. Perform several tempos of swing, bossa, samba, funk, and shuffle – 8 bars each.

3. Sight-reading section

Improvisation:

1. Comp for any chart of your choosing from memory; OR, improvise over a 12-bar blues AT medium swing and trade 4’s

(4 measures of solo then 4 measures of “comping” with themselves) – unaccompanied.

aUX PERCUSSION EVALUATION

Technical:

1. Perform along to one track of music chosen by you in any musical style (either on Vibes or Congas)

2. Sight-reading section (either on Vibes or Congas)

Improvisation:

1. Comp for any chart of your choosing on memory; OR, improvise over a12-bar blues at medium swing and trade 4’s

(4 measures of solo then 4 measures of “comping” with themselves) (either on Vibes or Congas)

Vocalist evaluation

Technical:

1. Perform a jazz solo vocal piece of your choice.
